Itinerary (15 days)


Day 1 Arrival in Lima

  • Upon arrival at the airport, you will be taken to your hotel.
  • Overnight at your chosen hotel.

Day 2 Lima - Arequipa

  • You will be taken to the airport to take your flight to Arequipa.
  • Upon your arrival you will be taken to your hotel and have some time at your leisure. In the afternoon you will visit Arequipa, "the white city". First, you will be take to the center of the city and visit the Main Square, the Cathedral and the Jesuit Church of La Compania. Next, you will be able to uncover to secrets of XVI century Santa Catalina Convent, almost a city within the city. Although it is now open to the public for visits, it still houses cloistered nuns. The tour will end with a visit to the San Francisco Church, from colonial times and a visit to Yanahuara where a viewpoint is located that will allow you to take in the whole city as well as the volcanoes that surround it and serve as the perfect backdrop.

Day 3 Arequipa - Colca Valley Tour

  • Early in the morning you will depart towards the Colca Valley, located at almost 12,000 feet above sea level. The journey to the valley will take you through amazing sights such as the ones at the Aguada Blanca and Salinas National Reserve, full of Andean flora and fauna; the Tojra wetlands and Patapampa until reaching the highest point of your journey, the "Mirador de los Andes" (View of the Andes) located at 16,000 feet, this site gives the perfect view to many volcanoes that can be found in this area such as the Mismi, Chachani, Misti and Ampata. Upon arrival to the nearby town of Chivay you will enjoy lunch and have the rest of the afternoon at your leisure. If you wish you will have the opportunity to visit the hot springs of La Calera for a relaxing bath or the Ethnological Museum. Dinner will be provided at your hotel.

Day 4 Colca Valley - Puno Tour

  • Your journey of the day will begin by visiting the main towns along the Colca Valley such as Yanque, its rich culture will enchant you. Then you will continue towards the "Mirador de la Cruz" (Viewpoint of the Cross), here is where you will find the best spot and front row sears to an amazing spectacle, not only you will get to appreciate the great depths of the Colca Canyon but with some luck you will also be able to witness the majestic flight of the condor. If the viewpoint leaves you wanting more, there`s no need to worry, you will have the option of taking a short hike along the edge of the canyon. On your way back to Chivay you will also be able to visit pre Inca sites such as hanging tombs and terraces, as well as other interesting valley towns such as Pinchollo and Maca, which will allow you to arrive back in Chivay just in time for lunch.
  • After lunch you will board a bus that will take you to Puno.

Day 5 Titicaca Lake Tour

  • This morning you will take a boat tour on what is considered the origin of the Inca Empire: the Titicaca Lake. Your first stop will be the Uros Islands, these are man made islands, built out of a local type of reed called totora. This "water tribe" continuously adds layers of reed to their islands to maintain them, but not only their "grounds" are made of totora, their homes, boats and everything you can think of has also been built with this reed. The Uros are particular because of their floating islands but also because of how they still maintain their traditions and customs over time, making this a once in a lifetime experience. The boat excursion will continue towards Taquile island, where you will take a hike up the hill that is located in this island to arrive to the town atop of it, this will give you a privileged view of the lake and if skies are clear enough you may even be able to view the volcanoes located on Bolivian shores across the lake. Here is where you will have lunch before heading back to Puno.

Day 6 Puno - Cusco

  • You will be taken to the station to board the bus to Cusco.
  • Early in the morning you will board the Inka Express bus to Cusco, on the way you will make some stops to beautiful sites that tell the story before the Incas. First you will visit the archaeological site of Pukara, the most important and ancient ceremonial center of this area, then you will reach the highest point of your journey at 14,222 ft., La Raya, this is the place where the aymara and quechua regions meet and where you will be able to enjoy breathtaking Andean sites. Then you will make a short stop in Sicuani to enjoy a delicious lunch in a local restaurant and then continue making your way to Cusco. After lunch you will visit the Raqchi archaeological site, made of carved stone and said to be a sanctuary for the Wiraocha god. The final stop comes at Andahuaylillas, called the Sistine Chapel of America, where you will be able to see the incredible contrast between its humble exterior and its lush interior decoration from barroque and colonial styles. At the end of the day you will arrive in the city of Cusco.

Day 7 Cusco Tour

  • In the afternoon you will have the chance to visit the historical city of Cusco. Your visit will begin with the center of the city, touring around two beautiful colonial landmarks: the Cathedral and the Main Square. Then you will visit the ancient Koricancha (Temple of the Sun in Quechua), an ancient Inca worship center to the Sun God and a marvelous mixture of Inca and colonial architecture. Later on you will leave the city and head towards the outskirts where several archaeological sites from Inca times can be found, and what better example of this that the Sacsayhuaman Inca Fortress, entirely built in stone, each piece carefully carved to fit perfectly to the other. This Inca fortress is also the chosen site for the Inti Raymi (Festival of the Sun) that is celebrated every year on June 24th. Even more archaeological marvels are ahead: Kenko (labyrinth or maze in Quechua), a ceremonial site; Puca Pucara, a site where you will find the tambos (watch towers) from Inca Time; and finish your visit with Tambomachay, where a spring that is never exhausted can be found and are locally known as the Inca Baths, this site is believed to be an Inca tribute to Unu (water in Quechua).

Day 8 Cusco - Sacred Valley Tour

  • In the morning you will take a day long excursion to the Sacred Valley, as you leave the city you will enjoy the beautiful landscapes that lead to the valley, until finally reaching your first stop, the Pisac market, a colorful place where handicrafts and local produce can be found and where you will have the chance to see locals barter their products. After roaming around the market, you will be taken to a local restaurant and enjoy a delicious lunch. The tour comes to an end at the amazing Inca fortress of Ollantaytambo, built by the Inca Pachacutec as a tambo or lodging site it is strategically built on a site that allows it to dominate and watch over the Sacred Valley of the Incas.

Day 9 Sacred Valley - Machu Picchu Tour

  • Early in the morning you will be taken to the train station and start the journey towards the ancient citadel of Machu Picchu. You will arrive at Aguas Calientes and take the bus up to the citadel where your guided tour will begin and you will be able to enjoy this New Wonder of the World and part of UNESCO`s World Heritage. After which you will enjoy a delicious lunch at a local restaurant and then take the bus back to Aguas Calientes where you will spend the night.

Day 10 Machu Picchu - Cusco

  • You will have the morning free to roam around the Aguas Calientes town, visit the hot springs that give it its name or if you plan ahead even have the chance to revisit the Machu Picchu citadel and the nearby peak, the Huayna Picchu (if you wish to include entrance fees for the second day please ask your travel specialist). In the afternoon you will take the train back to the city of Cuzco where you will spend the night.

Day 11 Cusco - Lima

  • You will be taken to the airport to take your flight to Lima.

Day 12 Lima - Ica Tour

  • In the morning, you will tour around Lima starting off with an amazing view of the Pacific Ocean from Miraflores. Then you will visit one of the very few archaeological sites that can be found within the city, the Huallamarca site and learn more about this pre Inca culture. After taking in the views of modern Lima, you will head to the downtown area, where the Historical Center is located, a great representation of Colonial times. You will visit the Government Palace and the Main Square located right in the middle. Your tour will continue around City Hall, the Cathedral, and Santo Domingo Church.
  • In the afternoon, you will be taken to the bus station to head towards Ica. Upon your arrival you will be taken to your hotel.

Day 13 Ica - Nazca - Ica Tour

  • In the morning you will be taken to the airdrome where you will take the light aircraft that will allow you to see what cannot be seen from the ground: the enigmatic Nazca Lines, gigantic at times geometrical representations of animals drawn of the desert around 1,500 years ago, breathtaking and still a total mystery to researchers as to their purpose, or even how they were drawn. After the over flight you will enjoy a short archaeological tour to nearby sites, such as the water canals, the Kantalloc natural viewpoint and the Maria Reiche Museum. You will also visit the Paredones archaeological site which is believed to be an administrative Inca center made of stone and adobe, its name literally means "walls of rock".

Day 14 Ica - Paracas - Lima Tour

  • You will depart early in the morning for your final excursion down the Peruvian coast, in Paracas. Here you will board a boat that will take you to the Ballestas Islands, located within the largest coastal wildlife sanctuary in Peru: the Paracas Reserve. You will enjoy the sights of many sea birds such as pelicans and cormorants as well as many other resident and migratory birds, but birds are not all that the sanctuary protects, the islands are also the home of many sea lion colonies. You will also be able to see another enigmatic drawing in the sand that was etched on the side of a huge sand dune, known as the candlestick because of its shape.
  • In the afternoon you will be taken to the station to board the bus back to Lima. Upon arrival at the bus station, you will be taken to your hotel.

Day 15 Departure from Lima
